Where The Great Waves Break

I wanna live in a land of lakes
Where the great waves break
And the night turns right into the day
I wanna be with the ones I left.

“I Will Be Back One Day,”
by Lord Huron, American Indie Band

The American indie band Lord Huron captured the essence of the wild weather and high winds last Tuesday in their song “I Will Be Back One Day” (YouTube link). Because the great waves were indeed breaking on Lake Ontario – an awesome visual gift for a photographer and a perfect opportunity for dozens of surfers to descend on the beaches of Sandbanks Provincial Park to ride the waves for the day.

The weather was a bizarre mix of dark, ominous clouds; white scudding clouds; brilliant sunshine; and gale-force winds to create precious ‘cowabunga’ moments for both surfers and photographers. It was one of those days where I simply grabbed my camera gear and raced to Prince Edward County before the magic elixir dissipated. I was not disappointed.
