Making Eye Statements: Creatures Walking Into My Room

I’m writing this blog posting on the penultimate day of 2016. The past two weeks have been lovingly filled with feasts, guests, and gifts. It is a time to look back on 2016 and its many blessings and challenges. And a time to consider the new year that beckons.

With that in mind, I wanted to share some of my favourite photographs of 2016. In reviewing the thousands of photos I’ve made, I was struck time and time again by the sheer serendipity of their journey into my life. Most of them weren’t planned – they simply appeared before me, and I lunged. I really wasn’t aware of what I had recorded until I looked at the photos on my computer later, at which point, I echoed Larry Sultan’s line above, “How did you get here?”

I make no claim to Larry Sultan’s greatness as a photographer, but I like to think that I have channelled his utter joy and satisfaction in recording and sharing these images. I hope you enjoy them.
